Los Angeles-based company, Modbook Inc., has finally announced the specifications of its highly-anticipated Modbook Pro tablet-PC. The device will come to the market this year, and it will probably be one of the most powerful tablets in the world.

Years ago, Andreas E. Haas founded Modbook Inc. with the dream of building a high-quality tablet device that would have the power of a capable PC, the built quality and reliability of an Apple MacBook and that would be able to run Apple’s operating system.

Back in 2008, Modbook Inc. went public and just ten days later Lehman Brothers went bankrupt, thus proving that the American government allowed financial companies to run rampant with no regard to the U.S. citizens’ well-being.

The financial crisis hit the company very hard, and after years of work and restructuring, Modbook Inc. is now able to present the first information on the long-awaited Modbook Pro tablet computing device.

Our users should know that the Modbook concept was presented years before Apple launched the first iPad, and that it was the first vision of an iOS-powered tablet-PC-like device.

Today’s Modbook Pro tablet will encapsulate the original hardware inside the latest model of Apple’s MacBook Pro 13.3”, but all will be in the tablet form.

Modbook’s impressive tablet will ship with a Wacom digitizer pen that delivers 512 levels of pen pressure sensitivity that the company claims is more than any other tablet computer on the market can offer.

The ForceGlass screen will provide an etched, paper-emulating drawing surface on the 13.3” screen, featuring a 1280 by 800 pixel resolution.

We’re already used with FullHD screens on 10” tablets, but we’re going to let this one slide, as Modbook’s uniqueness resides in many different innovations and not an increased screen resolution.

The initial hardware configuration will include an Intel Core i5 processor running at 2500 MHz with up to 16 GB of RAM memory, and a 2.5” 1TB HDD or a 960 GB SSD.

There is also a SuperDrive DVD burner along with one Gigabit Ethernet port, one FireWire 800 port, one USB 3.0 port, one Thunderbolt connector, an SDXC card slot, and one combo audio connector, just like the original Apple MacBook Pro.

The secret of the Modbook Pro tablet is the fact that the company practically takes an original Apple MacBook Pro apart and sticks it into a custom-made tablet enclosure.

Apple’s original warranty is thus now void, but Modbook Inc. will issue a new warranty for the Modbook Pro tablet.

Using Apple’s BootCamp, Modbook Pro tablet owners will be able to install Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system.

The Modbook Pro tablet is a device targeting drawing and CAD professionals, or simply tablet and Apple enthusiasts that are willing to pay a considerable premium price over the already high price of the MacBook Pro.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but we’re curious how well Modbook’s interesting idea will sell.

“It embodies hardware and software working together. People want to work and play,” Steve Ballmer said today amid much fanfare at Milk Studios in downtown Los Angeles. Microsoft has officially entered the ring with Apple.

Microsoft views the Surface as a “stage for Windows 8.” It’s 9.3mm thin, has full size USB 2.0 ports, a massive kickstand and weighs only 1.5 lbs. The casing is made out of magnesium (specifically, a material Microsoft calls VaporMg) and screen is covered in the Gorilla Glass 2 and optically bonded, a feature Microsoft brags was specifically made for the Surface. The Surface is directly aimed at consumers, and with that, the iPad.

Windows 8 is at the core of Surface. As such, it’s Metro device but also has access to all the Windows, not to mention Xbox features. This is clearly the product Microsoft had in mind when it announced the Xbox SmartGlass feature at E3 earlier in the month.

Microsoft also announced several accessories for the Surface including a clever 3mm thick cover that features a full (albeit super-slim) keyboard. Since it’s held on by magnets, it will likely be called a copy of the iPad’s SmartCover, too. The backside of the Surface even features a massive, unit-wide kickstand.

There will be two hardware options for Microsoft’s Surface, with both an ARM option and, for the full Windows experience, an Intel chip.

But like most hardware, it’s nothing without the right software. Ballmer was very clear at the beginning of the announcement event that this tablet’s strength is the Windows ecosystem. This tablet runs Windows 8, and with that, both Metro and the traditional desktop environment. Every application that runs on Windows, save perhaps Skyrim and the like, should run on a x86 Surface.

Still, if Microsoft is attempting to take on Apple, it will need to court a new crop of developers. The iPad’s strength comes from its legions of small 3rd party devs that for the most part completely ignore all things Microsoft. Up until this product, there wasn’t another tablet platform with the same sort of penetration numbers as the iPad. But with the Surface, Microsoft is essentially giving developers a massive user base as the applications will hit both mobile and desktop units — and Metro’s dedication to the touchscreen makes the deal even sweeter.

The new Windows RT-powered Surface will sport either 32 or 64GB of storage depending on the purchaser’s preference, while the more traditional Intel variant will come with either 64 or 128GB. Microsoft declined to dive into specifics about their new tablet’s release, though they were quick to note that the Surface tablets would be priced “competitively” when they make it to market.

The term Tablet computer may apply to a variety of form factors that differ in position of the screen with respect to a keyboard. The standard form is called slate, which does not have an integrated keyboard but may be connected to one with a wireless link or a USB port. Convertible notebook computers have an integrated keyboard that can be hidden by a swivel joint or slide joint, exposing only the screen for touch operation. Hybrids have a detachable keyboard so that the touch screen can be used as a stand-alone tablet. Booklets include two touch screens, and can be used as a notebook by displaying a virtual keyboard in one of them. (Wiki)

At Computex this month YoungYear Electronics has showcased a unique style of PC case called the Green Mesh, that moves away from the traditional fan laden PC case design. Removing fans from the case, that not only bring in cold air but also suck in dust into the heart of your PC.

The Green Mesh instead uses an open air design with a mesh case surround allowing cold air to circulate around your components and hot air to rise and vent itself through the top. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.
