I had to put my camera in the shop again. Who would have thought I’d have so many problems with a high end Nikon? Stupid problems really… the latest was the USB connection that I use to download thousands of pictures on a weekly basis became loose and failed to maintain the connection with my computer. The guy at the shop said I should never use the USB and that I should get a card reader. Really? That’s disappointing.

In my search for a card reader, I found this neat little item, and while it’s not very new, I somehow had never heard of it. (Don’t ask me how that happened.) Check out a Sandisk SD card that is hinged, and folds down, revealing a USB adaptor, what a great idea! Now I can eliminate the USB cord all together and simply pop the card out of the camera and offload my pics right to my PC.

The Sandisk Ultra II is a relatively standard memory card that’s quite ample in its performance, featuring 15MB/sec Read/Write speeds and useful for almost any kind of photography. The Sandisk Ultra is also capable of some pretty solid transfer times between the card and your PC. The only downside I can find to this nifty little card is that 4 GB’s is the largest card they make, but with such easy data transfers, all without the pesky cords and wires, and with an under 25 dollar price tag for the 4 GB I guess I’ll just get a few of them. Available for your transferring pleasure at Did you guys already know about these? It’s okay, you can tell me.

First I need to call your attention to the tiny white rectangle in the upper left quadrant of the above picture… That’s an iPhone, and the rest of the picture is the speaker dock. Yes, I agree, a picture that included a small car might have brought the whole size thing into a bit more focus, but we work with what we have. Suffice it to say, this thing is huge.

This enormous speaker system measures a ridiculous 8 feet wide by 4 feet tall and weighs in at more than 700 pounds. This steroidal system offers up a deaf defying (yes, that was on purpose) 10,000 Watts and over 130 decibels of mind numbing, chest thumping power. The threshold of pain comes it at around 120 decibels, just thought you should know.

The dock comes equipped with a 30-pin connector on top of the unit that allows you to connect your iPhone or iPod touch and, luckily, in case there isn’t enough room to connect your iDevice, the speaker also has Bluetooth connectivity in order to play your audio selections wirelessly from any iPhone, iPod touch or most other Bluetooth compatible devices.

Look inside this gigantic monster dock and you will find a 3-way system with two 18-inch sub-woofers, dual neodymium mid-range woofers, and two titanium-diaphragm compression drivers for pumping out the high notes (think glass breaking). Look closer, and you’ll see me living in it, with a $30,000 price tag I’ll have no choice. While not yet listed on the Behringer website, it is technically available… I may need to wait for the iNuke Boom 2… maybe the prices will come down a bit.

We’ve covered the Pizza Vending machine here at Coolest-Gadgets before, and I thinks its safe to say that we agreed, if the pizza was any good at all, it could be a hit. Well, I guess people liked the concept, (and the pizza too) as the Let’s Pizza vending machines are about to take on the USA!

Expecting an obviously frozen pie, I was shocked to learn that Let’s Pizza acually vends an authentic Italian pie from SCRATCH in all of about two and a half minutes, complete with the necessary pizza cutter and napkins. The Machines, created by Italian Claudio Torghel, were first made  in Europe around 3 three years ago and they have been working their way West, ever since.

For under 6 bucks, the vending machine spits out (probably could have come up with better terminology there) a 10.5 inch steaming hot pizza pie with a choice of plain, pepperoni, ham or bacon, with or without tomato.  The dough is actually made fresh from flour and water, and each pizza is assembled per order.  Special infrared ovens allow for quick, crisp pizza faster than you can say Mama Mia!

These futuristic vending machines can actually hold enough ingredients to make around 200 pies and they are even Internet connected, in order to let operators control their inventory and although each pizza will set you back almost 700 calories, I can say I’m already getting some change together.

I guess I will remember for the rest of my life the day Susan and I snuck into the cellar and tried our first cigarettes, some stolen Lucky Strike non filters from her grandfather. I remember how cool I felt taking my first puff and how green I turned even before I managed to exhale. Susan became a smoker. I never tried it again, of course now I wouldn’t bother, why try to like something that could kill you… but what if it wouldn’t?

Phillip Morris, the biggest and definitely the most well known tobacco company, is poised to sell a brand new type of cigarette, that they suggest will pose a much lower health risk than traditional cigarettes, all by the year 2017. If smoking posed less of a threat, would you still try to quit? Continue reading » Lower Risk Cigarettes – Would you Smoke again?

Do you find it interesting at how things have changed over the years? First we have the industrial revolution, where machine comes to the aid of men – not to mention it being able to make life a whole lot more efficient. Machines, however, were big and bulky originally, but over the years, engineering advancements and sound design principles were put in place, resulting in far more aesthetically pleasing machines that we see in the market these days. The same goes for devices as well, such as smartphones and tablets that do make considerable progress in the name of design advancement without sacrificing on practicality.

Well, if you are rather sick and tired of keeping up in the rat race of gadgets and gizmos, here is some food for thought. Have you ever wondered just how it would be like if you never have to keep up with the latest phone models any more? Right now, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the hottest Android smartphone on the market, although Foxconn claims that the next generation iPhone is going to blow the Galaxy S3 right out of the water. I wonder just how true that its, but it is besides the point. You might want to make a regressive step, so to speak, with this DIY cellphone kit.

A research team over at MIT has come up with open-source designs for the phone’s circuit board and case, where it is hoped to encourage a proliferation of personalized and diverse mobile phones in the market. We are not talking about a modern day smartphone, but rather, a basic communications device. After all, this DIY cellphone kit is freed from the constraints of mass production, allowing whoever picks it up to be able to explore diverse materials, shapes, and functions.

The original prototype will merge a custom electronic circuit board with a laser-cut plywood and veneer enclosure. It will not play nice with CDMA networks though, as the phone will only be able to accept a standard SIM card and will work with just about any GSM provider. Cellular connectivity will be offered via the SM5100B GSM Module, where it is available from SparkFun Electronics. The display is nothing much to shout about, where it is a mere 1.8″ color TFT display at 160 × 128 pixels, while there are also flexures in the veneer that pave the way for one to press the buttons below. At this point in time, the software will be able to support voice calls, although there is a chance of seeing SMS and other functionalities thrown into the mix later on.
